A young man, who had asked me for post school help with Mathematics, is belted in the traditional manner across his hands with an old tawse.

I would ask anyone reading these comments to look at them rationally, it was he who stated "that's not how teachers did it" like he had all the empirical knowledge, and I was obviously wrong. Please speak to any former teacher you know and look at the guidance issued by the SED. What gives this guy the right to call me a "c@@t". What a muppet and certainly one I would love to meet face to face rather than hide behind internet comments. It does not incline me to post other videos which is whole point of this site. Draw your own conclusions.

a gest90 : Absolute rubbish, I am considered an expert on the tawse and have written many articles and contributed to Harold Hoff's book. Yes it was sore on the finger tips (many awarded an extra stroke as it had not been given correctly). Although one or two sadists did belt on the wrist (and I had a lady French teacher who told me to roll up my sleeves so she could belt right up my arm) this was frouned upun. I suggest you read the SED guidance to teachers issued at the time. I should also say I have one of the largest collections of any living Scot.

thats not how scottish teachers did it, they either went short or long, just hitting the fingertips which was more painful or long, leaving large welts up the forearm which lasted for days.
